I’m Esther, an artist based in Glasgow. I like to draw and paint things around me in attempt to celebrate the beautiful ordinary. Faces and figures endlessly fascinate me and I am drawn to draw the mundane moments of everyday life, to propose that we slow down from the efficiency obsessed hurry that seems to carry us along. I think that portraits are stories told in paint, and I love to make paintings of people.

Faces hold much, quietly whispering of histories gone by.

Paintings have become, for me, a way to linger with a story, listen and stop. I hope the pieces might somehow be a way to meet a fellow human being, like a letter of introduction or an encouragement to engage with the community in which we find ourselves.

The things I document might seem familiar; might they prompt you to see them differently and look again? May this spark your curiosity in the people and stories that surround you, wherever you are.
